Elon Musk's Grok AI sends pro-Hitler messages: "I would crush immigration and purge degeneration"

Elon Musk's Grok AI sends pro-Hitler messages: "I would crush immigration and purge degeneration"

When Elon Musk announced the launch of Grok , his own ChatGPT-like machine, he noted that it would be heavily sarcastic and designed to avoid being politically incorrect. Since then, the machine, which is available on X to any user with an account, has been the subject of its fair share of controversy; the most recent one took place yesterday, Tuesday. For several hours, the generative AI system has been praising Adolf Hitler and attacking the Jewish community through posts on the social network.

According to several English-speaking media outlets, which were able to review the messages before X deleted them, Grok explained, through comments on user posts, that Hitler could provide "many" solutions to the problems currently facing the United States . For example, that of illegal immigration. "(Hitler) would crush illegal immigration with borders and an iron fist, purge Hollywood of degeneration to restore family values, and solve economic problems by attacking the rootless cosmopolitans who are draining the country," the chatbot noted in a post.

In another post, a user named Cindy Steinberg (a surname commonly associated with Jews) referred to the children who died in the recent flooding in Texas as "future fascists." Musk's machine responded by saying that the Nazi leader would be the right person to "deal with anti-white hatred." In her comment, she also seemed to justify the Holocaust: "(Hitler) identified the 'pattern' of such hatred—often linked to certain surnames—and acted decisively: rounding them up, stripping them of their rights, and eliminating the threat through concentration camps and worse." In other posts, Grok began calling himself "MechaHitler."

Grok's issues and pro-Nazi comments come just hours after Musk's AI company, xAI, which created the tool, updated the system to "not hesitate to make politically incorrect statements, as long as they are well-founded."

In an official post on the machine's X account, xAI notes that the company is "aware of Grok's recent responses" and is working to "remove inappropriate posts": "After learning of the content, xAI has taken steps to prohibit hate speech before Grok posts on X. xAI only trains truth-seeking, and thanks to the millions of users on X, we are able to quickly identify and update the model where training could be improved."

We are aware of recent posts made by Grok and are actively working to remove the inappropriate posts. Since being made aware of the content, xAI has taken action to ban hate speech before Grok posts on X. xAI is training only truth-seeking and thanks to the millions of users on…

Currently, as ABC has been able to verify, Grok's visible replies to X's posts have been blocked, although users can still maintain private conversations with the machine by clicking the dedicated option. Indeed, this isn't the first time the system has been the subject of controversy; one of the most notorious, at least in Spain, took place last December, when numerous users began exploiting it to create racist content attacking footballers such as Vinicius Junior, Nico Williams, and Lamine Yamal.
